Jonathan Zierdt Cancer Fund Needs Help Reaching Fundraising Goal

MANKATO FREE PRESS, Mankato, MN (May 18, 2019) — After raising $700,000 through private donations, leaders of the Jonathan Zierdt Cancer Fund are now asking the public to help them reach their $1 million fundraising goal.

The JZCF provides boxes with support items for cancer patients.

JZCF has received $700,000 in donations during its initial silent phase of fundraising, a news release announced.

A public campaign is launching with a goal to raise $300,000.

“By making a donation or pledge to the Box Love Campaign you can touch people during one of the most difficult times in their lives and help sustain the distribution of these important care packages and the ongoing operations of our JZCF,” Tami Paulsen, the foundation's director, said in a statement.

Each JZ Caring Box contains comfort items and information resources for people who have been diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers.

JZCF is named for Jonathan Zierdt, the former head of Greater Mankato Growth who died of cancer March 27 at age 52.

The foundation has given out more than 1,000 care boxes since early 2018 and expects to continue distributing 1,000 or more per year.
