The renovation of All Seasons Arena marks a new era for one of our region’s most heavily used community spaces—and philanthropy played a central role in making it possible.
Fueled by generosity from local business sponsors, fan attendees of Hockey Day Minnesota (HDM) 2022, and the creation of the HDM 2022 Grow the Game Fund at Mankato Area Foundation, proceeds helped fund major updates to All Seasons Arena (ASA), a facility that thousands of athletes, families, and fans depend on each year.
As a cornerstone of the region’s hockey and skating community, the arena’s multi‑phase modernization reflects the strength of community investment and the lasting impact of local giving.

A Philanthropic Legacy Born from Hockey Day Minnesota
When Mankato hosted HDM in 2022, the local organizing committee set out with a clear intention: ensure every dollar raised stayed in our community. The event’s success allowed for the creation of a permanent charitable fund at Mankato Area Foundation (MAF) dedicated to growing the game of hockey across Southern Minnesota.
Today, that same local committee partners with MAF to review applications and award grants that strengthen hockey opportunities for youth and families. Their work ensures the spirit of Hockey Day—community, pride, and investment in the future—continues long after the final horn.
“We’ve been really intentional about being good stewards of the Hockey Day Minnesota funds and the investments made through this community,” Michelle Schooff, an HDM co-chair said. “The renovations we helped support, including a new dryland room, certainly benefit our youth, but the broader economic impact on the community is just as significant.”
Supporting a Community Cornerstone
Originally built in 1973 and expanded in 1998, All Seasons Arena has long been a vital hub for high school and youth hockey, figure skating, adult leagues, and recreational skaters. Its recent multi‑phase, $14 million renovation modernized the arena and enhanced the overall visitor experience.
HDM 2022 philanthropic support contributed to key improvements that will serve the Greater Mankato community for decades to come:
- Upgraded ice-making and refrigeration systems to ensure consistent, high-quality ice
- Modernized, accessible spectator areas for improved flow and safety
- Enhanced restrooms, concessions, and lobby spaces to better support families and guests
- Improvements to both the North and South Rinks, ensuring full usability for the 2025–26 season
- A new dryland training room focused on performance, skill development, strength, speed, and conditioning training
These upgrades—some highly visible, others behind the scenes—help maintain the arena’s role as a regional destination and strengthen the infrastructure supporting youth athletics and community recreation. See before and after photos here
“Hockey Day Minnesota brought both our community and Minnesota — the ‘State of Hockey’ — together in celebration, but the philanthropy it inspired to grow the game continues to create impact every day,” Schooff said. “It’s incredible to know that children and families across Southern Minnesota have access to high‑quality facilities and expanded opportunities to play the game they love.”
