How to Talk Across Divides: Communicating for Connection
Join us for a conversation with Dr. Siri Erickson, Senior Director for Strategy and Learning at PACE (Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement). PACE is a community of funders working together to strengthen American democracy through active civic participation.
During this session, we’ll explore which civic terms have the most “bridgeyness” potential, how different words and phrases signal values to various audiences, and ideas for more meaningful dialogue.
Dr. Erickson will share insights from PACE’s research-driven guide How to Talk Bridgey, part of their Civic Language Perceptions Project on how Americans understand and respond to civic language.
In addition to helping you communicate more effectively in community settings, the session will offer ideas for applying “bridgey” communication in board conversations, donor outreach, and message framing—especially when navigating high-stakes or complex topics.
